Peoples sure got it right with these pearl stud earrings! I comparison shopped for months before settling on these and I couldn't be happier with my choice. I specifically searched for pearls mounted on 14k yellow gold backs, since white gold earrings of any karat irritate my skin. Finding pearls in yellow gold was a bit of a challenge with white gold and sterling silver being the more popular metal choices these days. However, the size of these pearls adequately hides the post color when they're on the ear, so these earrings can be worn freely with jewelry of every metal, including rose gold. Peoples offered the largest, most affordable pearl studs I came across. At around 9.5 mm, these earrings are the perfect size; large enough to make an impression, yet small enough to remain elegant.
After browsing at four other jewelry retailers, a department store and a wholesale store, I realized that Peoples earrings were not only larger, but the luster of their pearls went unmatched. I carefully scrutinized the other store's pearls, and in general, I was unimpressed with their products. Some pearls had light scratches and surface flaws, some were misshapen or poorly matched, and the majority of which appeared to have a lower quality, lifeless nacre. The few pairs I found which appeared to be of fine quality were either too small, or dramatically over priced (and sometimes both). You wouldn't think that buying a simple pair of earrings would be so difficult, but it was!
That said, Peoples' pearl earrings and necklaces alike were consistently beautiful. I was tempted to splurge on a more expensive, slightly smaller pair of Mikimoto studs. However in all honesty, the luster of these cultured freshwater earrings was just as beautiful. My pearls are perfectly rounded, carefully matched, and in certain shades of light, they shimmer with a soft pink glow. Unfortunately, my camera had a difficult time capturing this effect, but its worth checking out in store if you're undecided.
I haven't experienced any skin irritation from the yellow gold, the backs fit securely on the posts without slipping, and I wear my pearls every day. I've had mine for almost 6 months now, and I take them off at night and gently wipe each with a cotton swab moistened with plain water; no soap or cleaners required! Pearls are a soft, porous gemstone and their luster is broken down by oils and chemicals like hairspray and perfume. However, gentle handling and a light cleaning now and then is all that my pearls have required to keep them looking new.
These beauties are wonderfully wearable. Pearls match any color outfit and look stunning against every skin color. You can dress them up for special events, or incorporate them into your every day look. I've worn mine to a wedding, on a beach in Hawaii, and I've worn them scrubbing dishes too. Whether you're shopping for yourself or seeking a gift for someone special, I can't recommend these pearls enough!
