Terrible customer service
On December 28, 2023, I visited the People’s store at the SouthGate Centre in Edmonton. I requested assistance finding a band to go with my existing Vera Wang Ring and the lady that assisted me, only showed me one band and acted annoyed that I had even asked for assistance. I told her that I wanted to make sure that that was the right band but made no attempt to offer to show me more. With that being said, she did show me a great band but I wasn’t ready to commit after only seeing one and so I left the store. On December 29, 2023, I revisited the People’s store at the SouthGate Centre in Edmonton, where I met another salesperson, whom was amazing. She took the time to show me multiple bands, spent time making sure that I was going to order the correct size as my existing ring was clearly too big, she cleaned and inspected me jewellery. She was great. I decided to move forward with the purchase and she helped me complete the purchase online. She ordered me a 6.75 band to be delivered to the Sherwood Park Mall location, which is closer to my home. On January 7, 2024, I went to collect my ring from the Sherwood Park location and it was not the ring that I had ordered. The ring was 6.25 not 6.75. The sales staff never apologized for the wrong product. They stated that maybe it was because it was already in the store, which I knew it wasn’t as I had spoken to an on-line agent to see where it was available as I wasn’t sure that I wanted to go back to the Southgate location after my first terrible experience. They offered to send it out to get it resized and that it would take 4-6 weeks, which wont work as I want the ability to upsize larger if need be. They offered to custom order it in and it would be in in about 10 weeks and that due to the sale being over, I would have to pay full price OR I could wait for it to go back on sale and come back in and do my custom order at that time. I decided to return the ring. I left the store again with NO apology and NO attempt to try to correct this without costing me money and honestly I was in tears. I was looking forward to having my wedding band but was leaving the store without. See 2023 was our 25th wedding anniversary so this band meant something to me. I went home and spoke to someone on-line so that I could reorder my ring in the correct size, 6.75. The person was helpful sent me a link to pay. I told them that I wanted the price before I paid, they gave it to me and it was for more than I had paid. I told them that I wanted to get the ring for what I had original paid for it, they said I would pay full price and than get a credit later. I wasn’t comfortable with that. They said give me a minute. They came back with a second price, it was still $120 more than what I had paid. I told them no and requested a number for someone to call the following day. They said they were trying to help and came back with a better number, I believe it was about $80 less than I had originally paid so I agreed to pay and did. I got the confirmation email that a 6.75 ring was ordered On January 11, 2024, I went into collect my ring and it was the wrong size again. It was 6.5 not 6.75. The ladies gave me the same options (custom 10 weeks, wait for sale, send out 4-6 weeks). I told them that this was not my fault and that I was not interested in those options, I wanted a ring for right away not for 1-3 months later. I was told that this is what happens when you order on line and that it would probably happen again, to which I responded with “it won’t as I am done trying to get what I ordered”. I returned the ring and again left the store with NO apologies and NO attempt to correct it without costing me money. I left the store I took my business to the jewellery store directly across from People’s after my poor interactions on January 11, 2024 (Paris Jewellers) I get accidents happen, we are all human BUT the lack of empathy, the lack of customer service from multiple staff members have left me very disgusted with People’s. It is sad as People’s and Mappin’s has always been the jewellery store that my husband and I shopped at. We have bought multiple things there over the years between these two companies and I call tell you that due to this experience, we will most likely never step foot in one these stores again.
