Whether you’re layering a couple of simple chains or experimenting with three, four, or more different styles, the key is to give each necklace the space it needs to breathe. To avoid ending up with a tangled mess, keep the rule of three in mind:
1. Start with a
choker-style necklace. Chokers are around 14"-16" in length, so they fit closely against the throat. A delicate to mid-weight chain choker is a great base to build on.
2. Your next layer should be at least 18" in length. A
bar necklace or a
name necklace with a plate centered along the chain works well in this position. You might also select a small pendant or
solitaire, but the bottom of the drop on this second necklace should have adequate space away from the third.
3. For the final necklace in your trio, look for something between 20"-24" long. A
pendant necklace is perfect for this look. Maybe add your favourite
cross or
heart to the mix — it’s up to you. The varying lengths of the styles you choose will give you a fashion-forward look.
